Kooki author’s book 2017 Golden Ribbon Award – Art section: Literature for older children and youth Annotation HOST Publishing House 96 pages / 21 x 21 cm / 2016 Kookis aren’t born, they appear. They don’t die, they disappear. Kooki lives in the hills, where he sings to the foxes and talks with the stones. He lives in the here and now, wanting for nothing — until he meets Bear from the town, whose vivid stories of the big, wide world make his head spin…A story about attachment, overambition and keenness to adapt to the expectations of those around us. It is also about resignation and courage — the courage to take responsibility for your own life and to find a way back to what you are. Who killed Snowy? Petra Soukupová / Host Publisher / 2017 2018 Nomination – Golden Ribbon Award – Art section: Literature for older children and youth 2018 The White Ravens - International Youth Library Annotation The narrator, schoolgirl Martina, wants a canine friend more than anything else. When she finally gets one, it is a problematic white dog that is deaf and quite wild. Called Snowy, this troublemaker is disliked by most of the people in Martina’s village. So, it is no wonder that one day, she finds him dead in a roadside ditch. Could Snowy’s death have been intentional? Martina and her friends Franta, Kája and Viktor become detectives, searching for the culprit. What they discover during their investigation may have nothing to do with the white dog… Foreign editions: Russian (Samokat, 2018), Macedonian (Antolog, 2019) CHINKS Marka Míková / Argo Publisher / 2014 2015 Golden Ribbon Award – Art section: Literature for older children and youth Annotation Chinks. Cracks and fissures. They start to appear out of nowhere – in walls, in the ceiling, under the stairs, on the ground. People notice them but only Matylda musters the courage to crawl into one of them. And then to another. To the secret passage below the church. And every time she finds herself at another place, in another world, in future. In a world full of animal pictures and gentle music, in a world where everything is friendlier, kinder, where she finds both her lost mum and an explanation, why she had to spend her early years without her… Load More WHO KILLED SNOWY? Beyond seven mountains and seven centuries lies a kingdom called Shining Stars. For many years calm and peace reigned in this land because it was protected by a mythical meteorite that once fell from the heavens. On that miraculous night, all criminals were turned into eggs made of stone. Wickedness was banished. But on the day when our story begins, the very day when a new jester arrives at the royal castle, it turns out that the Shining Star—the meteorite of the myth—has been stolen. Something is going on inside the stone eggs, and the castle is bracing itself for an attack by forces of evil. There is only one way to avert a catastrophe: by tracking down the thief and so returning the Shining Star to the castle. This gargantuan task is taken on by a couple of adorable detectives – a remarkable jester with only one bell and a little, rather lonely princess. Can these two save the kingdom? Load More FIREFLIES ALBATROS Publishing House/2021 JAN KARAFIÁT The classic Czech book was first published in 1876. After that was published more than a hundred times. The story was written by an evangelical pastor. I read that book when I was a kid and I was really surprised by the not happy ending. The world of little creatures is subordinate to nature. Live and death depend on their skills to survive and how they accept their destiny. The books for kids these days are full of heroes who are independent, this book is the opposite. It's different, maybe cruel but more honest finally. EMY AND DRAGON ALBATROS Publishing House/2021 Richard Vokůrka The story is about a little brave girl called Emy who is new in the city. It isn't an ordinary place for living because she is in magical Prague. Old magic and fantastic figures live in a parallel reality that she discovers. The old wizard becomes her friend and their mission is to save Prague because there is the big enemy... the black Dragon. The story is about adventure, written with a light hand. Load More TOYS WANT TO PLAY AS WELL ALBATROS Publishing House/2019 IVONA BŘEZINOVÁ The yellow skittle stayed at home alone, the rest took the children in thier backpacks and left for a trip. The skittle would also like to play outside like its friends. Then suddenly a clown appears, and they play in the puppet theatre together. Zlatka, a golden-haired girl is here, behind her rocking horse creaks. Hop! The yellow skittle sits on its back. It's so fun to rock back and forth. Later, the skittle jumps into the pram with the doll and they set off around the room. The car honks its horn and dashes off with the skittle around the table. After playing with the blocks, the skittle flies a paper kite and finally finds some little skittles - pieces from a board game. Then a door opens, children run into the room, the yellow skittle greets its friends. The skittle was not sad that it didn' go on the trip with its friends. It had great fun with new adventures and had made many new friends! She left in a hurry one night while Samuel was sleeping and did not say goodbye. Beyond her sporadic postcards, Samuel hears nothing from his mother. Go to Illustration Go to Artworks for Client 2D/3D Seeds Seeds I am fascinated by transformation and hiding power. My next project where I use 3D and 2D combinations is called "Seeds". This project is in progress. The basic shapes of the seeds were made in Houdini by Břetislav Kašpar as well. Bjuba Once I designed this creature called Bjuba I have had an idea to make him alive. I asked my friend Břetislav Kašpar who is a professional in Houdini to help with that idea. It was really magic to be just Art Director and watch how beautiful could be my proposals in 3D. I also ask Libor Ščerba to create music and Patrik Hradecký made the final comopositing. We exhibit this short movie about transforming Bjuba at Lustr festival. I created sculptures and illustrations to support the atmosphere in the room where we presented the project to the audience.
